It's That Time Again...
I'm sure you all recall how those clever bears at Kraft have tried to keep us folks from getting wise to them by listing "beef" as one of their "Hot Foods for 2005" when they really meant salmon all along. Well, I was neither fooled nor deterred, and so this weekend's Big Dish is baked salmon. Simple, but delicious, and even on sale at Tops when I got it. Good fortune is mine!
I used a real simple recipe out of the AAL cookbook that we happen to own. Let's see, anything interesting here? Oh, yes: NO CILANTRO! Seriously, I threw the rest away, just to show the Kraft bears who's in charge of the kitchen. Cold turkey. (No, not in the salmon, it's just an expression, see?) And I added Tarragon to my slowly-growing collection of spices. I augmented the spices in the dressing that was brushed on with just a dash of hungarian paprika, because it makes just about everything taste better. Take that, bears! Old school.
Side tossed salad, and alfredo noodles. Leinenkugel Honey Weiss biere to top it off. Delicious. Good thing, too, since 2 pounds of salmon looks like it'll go for four whole meals.
Check out the whole spread:
Sideboard
Salmon-fest was slated for Saturday, but gaming plans intervened, and I ended up eating in town with the gang at Roadhouse. I only mention it here as means to segue and gloat about how I rocked to victory in the ensuing game of Age of Renaissance that evening. Played Venice, made good early into area V, managed to clean out the advances before I had to bear the brunt of the worst cards that Epoch III has to offer. Held off Tom in the final spend-fest: Tom, who roared back to life and almost managed to win it with meeek little Paris. Good game all in all.
Flower Power
Oh, and how is our calender-challenged Christmas cactus doing? Well, it's no "Remains of a Rainbow" shot, but this should give you a good idea. Until next time...
